As the State of WV moves towards a standards based curriculum, RESA II in collaboration with Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo and Wayne Counties saw the need to rewrite grade level indicators into a simple, understandable language called “I CAN” statements.
These statements were written in student friendly language for both parents and students. This process of working with the standards was very helpful to teachers to gain an understanding of “what students should know and be able to do.”
Teams of teachers from Cabell, Logan, Mingo and Wayne counties worked consistently with Kelly Watts (RESA II) and county leaders to produce “I CAN” statements for K-12 Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics.
